26th November 2008 - 30,000 extra tents for pilgrims (SPA)
Jeddah, 26/11/2008
The Civil Defense has launched a three-pronged strategy to keep pilgrims safe from fire and rainfall at the holy sites.
Accordingly, 30,000 new tents have been provided at the holy sites. More tents will also be supplied as and when needed, Sulaiman Al-Omar, a senior official in charge of Hajj affairs said here Tuesday.
Steps have been taken to prevent any fire in the holy sites and in case of an emergency situation, arrangements have been made to contain the damage there from, Al-Omar was quoted as saying by the Jeddah-based Saudi Gazette in a report published today.
Fire-fighting equipment have been placed on roads, bridges and pilgrims’ residences in Makkah. “We have provided alarm system, automatic splash, scouts in camps and emergency exits in the holy sites,” Al- Omar added.
