1st July 2009 - 800 Pakistani pilgrims duped by air ticket scam (SG)
Saudi Gazette, 01/07/2009
The Ministry of Hajj has launched an investigation into the stranding of nearly 800 Pakistani Umrah pilgrims at King Abdul Aziz International Airport yesterday after being told they had no air ticket reservations. A spokesman from the company in Jeddah said that "it was an organized fraud operation between the airline office and the company's agent in Islamabad" whom he claims "issued the pilgrims with forged return tickets" enabling them to obtain Umrah visas from the Saudi Arabian embassy. An official, anonymous source from the Ministry of Hajj said the pilgrims would be sent home soon and the investigation continues.
