3rd November 2009 - Local pilgrims, health workers to be vaccinated (AN)
Arab News, 03/11/2009
As part of its programme to minimise the dangers of swine flu, the Saudi Ministry of Health is to begin vaccination of selected individuals in the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Dr. Ziad Al-Memish, assistant deputy minister of health for preventive medicine, announced: “We have a sizable quantity of doses of the swine flu vaccine and we want to commence the immunization program without delay since the vaccine will be effective only 10 days after vaccination.”
The Kingdom has made every effort to minimise the impact of swine flu during this year's Hajj. Action includes careful monitoring of pilgrims on arrival, checking the quality of the swine flu vaccine and a controlled vaccination programme.
