3rd September 2008 - Anti-smoking campaign launched in Makkah (AN)
Arab News, 03/09/2008
In an effort to publicise the adverse effects of smoking and to discourage the habit everywhere, the Saudi Arabian authorities have launched an intensive anti-smoking campaign. A large team of health officials and assistants are operating in the Holy City of Makkah to communicate the anti-smoking message to the many thousands of pilgrims from around the world who perform Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan. The objective is to make Makkah a smoke-free city and to persuade as many as possible that the holy month of Ramadan is the ideal time to break free from the tobacco habit..
