WHO official hails Saudi efforts to eradicate polio

The Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Margaret Chan has hailed the positive contribution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to eradicate polio at the international level, notably in the Muslim world.

The remarks came in a cable sent by her to Minister of Health Dr Hamad al-Manei on the Kingdom's celebrations of its success in making Saudi Arabia - a country free from any cases of polio.

She lauded the accurate system being implemented by the Health Ministry to discover any death caused by the virus of this disease.

She appraised the efforts exerted by the Health Ministry to vaccinate all passengers from countries infected by this disease during Hajj and Umrah (minor Hajj) season before their arrival in the Kingdom.

It is worth mentioning that the Kingdom has recently received a merit certificate, endorsing the fact that the country is free from polio.
