Islamabad, 5 July 06

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Islamabad Ali S. Awadh Asseri has met Pakistan’s Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani and extended an invitation to him, on behalf of the Saudi Government, to attend the OIC Information Ministers Conference in Jeddah in mid-September, according to an official statement.

The minister accepted the invitation and said the conference would be a great opportunity to promote brotherly relations amongst the Muslim countries.

He said that efforts were underway to project Pakistani culture in the Arab world by dubbing Pakistani TV dramas and other entertainment programmes into Arabic language.

Durrani said that the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) had established Arabic news service and efforts were underway to further strengthen it so that it could facilitate the news agencies of the Arab World.

This service would provide information about Pakistan and it would usher in a new era of cooperation in the field of communication, the minister said.

Durrani informed the ambassador that a PTV team would be sent to Saudi Arabia during Hajj to cover the great religious event.

The Ambassador appreciated the initiatives on part of the Pakistan Government and said that the APP Arabic service would certainly be a big step in facilitating the flow of information.

Asseri underlined the need for establishment of an institutional arrangement to further expand the mutual relationship between the two countries.

He said that Saudi government had always attached high priority to Pakistan and looking forward to further boost the existing relationship between the two brotherly Muslim countries.
