Riyadh, 8 October, 2006

The Department of Passports has urged the citizens and residents to avoid transporting, recruiting or accommodating violators of the residence regulations or who are illegally overstaying whether they are pilgrims, umrah (minor hajj) performers or visitors after the expiry of their visas.

Violators of these regulations will be liable for punishment including fines, not less than SR 1000 and not more than SR 5000, or imprisonment ranging between five months and two years or with both

penalties, said a statement released today by the Passports Department.

The statement called on those who have come to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to leave the country after the expiry of their visas, and said their failure to do so is a flagrant violation of the regulations.
