Over $1 billion spent on quake relief works in Pakistan

Islamabad, 17 January, 2007

Over $1 billion has so far been spent on relief and rehabilitation efforts in the earthquake affected areas in Azad Kashmir and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan, said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

"It is gratifying to note that the rehabilitation work is proceeding satisfactorily and the quality of new facilities of infrastructure, housing, educational institutions, hospitals and clinics, roads, water and electricity projects is much better than what these areas had before October 8," the prime minister said while reviewing progress in the reconstruction and rehabilitation works in the quake devastated areas.

Aziz appreciated the help and expertise being extended by the friendly governments, NGOs and the civil society organisations in the rehabilitation works.
