Prince Naif speaks to reporters

Tunis, 31 January 07

Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Interior Minister and Honorary President of Arab Interior Ministers Council, confirmed the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the interests of the Palestinian people, saying that the call by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to Palestinian leaders to meet in the Holy City of Makkah forms part of this policy.

In a press statement following the meetings of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, Prince Naif wished the Palestinians success and agreement. "I hope they will live up to the King's and Arab Nation expectations", Prince Naif was quoted as saying.

On Hajj, he said security incidents which had occurred in previous Hajj seasons had totally disappeared. However, some skirmishes took place but hade successfully been dealt with, he said. He called on Muslim countries to illuminate pilgrims before they leave for the Holy Places in Saudi Arabia. He vowed that Saudi Arabia is committed to keep the safety, security and health of all pilgrims.

At the same time, Prince Naif underscored the importance of intellectual confrontation against terrorism and deviant thought, noting that security confrontation alone is not enough. He urged media institutions to show cooperation in this field.

In response to a question, Prince Naif wished the recently-established Strategic Studies College, an affiliate of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, every success. On whether he is satisfied over the international cooperation to wipe out terrorism, Prince Naif said cooperation is there, but each country ought to play its part and carry out its obligations.
