Saudi Arabia and Chad sign security agreement

The Minister of Interior Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz and his Chadian counterpart Ahmad Mohammed Basher signed here last night a security agreement, which is concerned with combating terrorism and drugs trafficking.At the outset of the session, Prince Naif said the agreement provides for the two countries to engage in in-depth review of means of combating terrorism and drugs trafficking, a number of other security issues as well as issues pertaining to the Chadian community in Saudi Arabia.Prince Naif reiterated the keenness of the Kingdom on forging cooperation with all countries of the world in security matters."The world is currently facing the menace of terrorism, and unfortunately the Muslims are accused of practicing terrorism despite the fact that Islam has nothing to do with it."

Prince Naif said the Muslims who are involved in terrorism are actually defaming Islam and all Muslims."As Muslims, we are capable of refuting such allegations and building our security organs that are capable of confronting terrorism," he said, underlining the importance of the awareness of the youth so as to keep them far away from the deviated ideas.Prince Naif said the Kingdom welcomes the expatriates who legally stay in the country, but he criticized those who stay back after performing Hajj or Umrah (minor hajj).

Prince Naif noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been honored by the service of the Two Holy Mosques.

He urged the Muslim countries to cooperate with the Saudi officials as regards the awareness of their citizens about the Saudi regulations and systems.

"It is hoped that the Chadian embassy in Riyadh will play an effective role in this respect," he said noting that some Chadians who are residing in the Kingdom have lost their passports.

On his part, the Chadian minister of interior said all articles of the agreement are pertaining to fighting terrorism and drugs-peddling.

He pointed out that the Chadians have been coming to the Kingdom for a long time.

"The Chadians used to come to the Kingdom to perform Hajj, but some of them have stayed back," he said.

"I do believe that all violators of the Kingdom's regulations should be punished," he added.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Minister of Interior; Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Salem, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and a number of senior officials.
