More Escalators Around Holy Mosque Of Makkah

Holy City of Makkah, 15 July 07

The General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs has undertaken the implementation of various projects for the comfort and safety of the visitors, said Dr. Mohammed Nasir Al-Khuzayyem, the Deputy President of Two Holy Mosques Affairs.

In a report published today, the Jeddah-based Saudi Gazette said Al-Khuzayyem provided details of these projects by disclosing that more electronic escalators are being built around the Holy Mosque of Makkah to facilitate the entry of visitors to the first floor and the terrace. These escalators will be operated in the holy Month of Ramadan, the peak season.

This year, more than three million pilgrims are expected to perform Salah (Prayer) and Hajj and Umrah rituals in the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah.

In order to maintain hygiene, a factory has been built to clean 25,000 water coolers and sterilize the plastic glasses to eliminate the possibility of contamination.

More than 3,000 workers are on duty around the clock to clean the basement, the ground floor, the first floor and the terrace.

The expansion of the area between As-Safa and Marwah ( Mas'aa) is expected to be completed soon along with extra bridges to provide easy movement to the visitors of the House of Allah.

It will greatly help the Umrah performers in making 'Sa'ey'.

All the gates connected to the ground floor of the 'Mas'aa' will remain closed except for Marwah gate.

The worshippers will use bridge to enter the Holy Mosque said Al-Khuzayyem.

A factory has started to clean the prayer carpets. It cleans 300 square meters of carpets everyday, said Al-Khuzayyem.

The Factory of Kiswa (cover of Kaba'a) is being renovated and provided with modern machinery to facilitate the embroidery from the gold and silver fibers and manufacture its covering with pure silver thread.

A number of electronic boards have been installed in different languages to serve as guide for Umrah and Hajj rituals.

The Air-conditioning Project of the entire Holy Mosque of Makkah is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
