Pakistan introduces online processing of Hajj applications

Islamabad, 16 July 07

Pakistan is introducing services like online processing of Hajj applications by citizens and banks, dissemination of information regarding selected intending pilgrims through ballot and their group name, code and flight schedule (both ways), officials said.

The Ministry of Information Technology is in the process of implementing a project to ensure provision of information service through a portal for citizens, concerned government departments and other private organizations like banks and airlines about Hajj.

An official of the Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) - an implementing body of the project - said this phased project was expected to be fully implemented by December 2007.

All major activities including supply of hardware, deployment of Local Area Network (LAN) and development of application software have been completed. The EGD will look after the technical and maintenance side of the project till 2009 to ensure its smooth functioning.

The ongoing Hajj operation entirely depends on the newly developed and deployed application software. The newly developed application software saved 50% time for application submission, data entry and data edition, verification activities in comparison with the time consumed for these activities during last Hajj operation.
