SRO displays express train project

The Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) has displayed at the International Exhibition for Exploration and Development of Mineral Resources, currently in progress here, the express train project which will link the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah.

SRO's president general Eng. Abdulaziz al-Hukeil said the project of the express train, which has been approved by the supreme economic council, will make it possible to operate express trains between Makkah and Madinah via Jeddah, for the transportation of the pilgrims and Umrah (minor Hajj) performers .

Eng. al-Hukeil said the project, when it is completed, will extend quick and safe services to the passengers and will have a positive economic and social impact on Makkah and Madinah regions.

He noted that the project, due to be implemented at a length of more than 500 kilometers, will include five stations: two stations in each of Makkah and Jeddah and one in Madinah.
